Adult Swim Lessons provide adults with an opportunity to learn valuable life skills or build on existing skills.   With an area expert as your instructor, you will be sure to improve any swimming skills that you may have and build endurance.    For people that might be afraid of water or do not know how to swim, you will learn from the very beginning.  From being comfortable in the water to floating on your back to being comfortable with your face in the water and basic swim skills,  you will be able to learn at your own pace.   Water safety will also be covered, so you will know what to do in case of an emergency. 

Open to young adults 15 yrs old and up.

Family Swim Lessons is a new type of swim lesson directly educating parents/guardians alongside their children during the 45 minute class.   During the first 30 minutes of class, adults and children will be separated into their age groups.  The same water safety and swim skills (floating, swim float swim, and basic swim strokes) will be taught to both groups.  The parent/guardian group will receive emergency preparedness tips and how to implement these skills at home, lakes, or pools.  The last 15 minutes will be dedicated to having the parents/guardians work with their children on the skills that were taught during the first part of the class.   Instructors will be available to assist during this time. This is a 6 week class.

Open to families with children age 3 years old to 17 years old.

Lesson times are determined by the level of the swimmer.

Stage 1 / Water Acclimation: Students develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water. This stage lays the foundation that allows for a student’s future progress in learning to swimming. Child will learn to swim in a horizontal position while encouraging early breathing techniques, pool and water safety, and learn how to rest in the water safely.

Stage 2 / Water Movement: In stage 2, students focus on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water while also continuing to practice how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water. Children will learn t swim in a horizontal position while encouraging early breathing techniques, pool and water safety, and learn how to rest in the water safely.

Stage 3 / Water Stamina: In stage 3, students learn how to swim to safety from a longer distance than in previous stages in the event of falling into a body of water. This stage also introduces rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg action.

These lessons are designed to give participants individualized attention to improve or master their swimming skills.  Space is limited, so register today.

A Typical Class

Together, the instructor, participant and/or parent determine the goals for the session and the curriculum is customized in order to meet these goals.  Private lessons are 30 minutes in length.

• Inform the instructor of physical impairments, fear of or bad experiences with the water to ensure a more positive lesson.

Attire and What to Bring

• Please bring photo ID when you visit the Y.
• Come to class dressed and ready for the pool.
• Clothes, street shoes, diaper bags and other personal items can be stored in the locker rooms; bring your own lock and leave your valuables at home.
• Family appropriate, clean swimsuit and swim attire is required.
• Sandals or flip-flops are permitted in the pool area; No street shoes permitted.
• Towel, goggles (if desired).

Get Started

Customized swim lessons can begin at any time, if we have an available instructor. Private lessons are only available during non-peak hours.  Cancellations MUST be done 24 hours in advance.  NO REFUNDS. 

Safety Around Water introduces children to water safety to make responsible choices around water.  Children will learn what safe behavior means in, on, and around water.  Through engaging, fun activities children will learn skills including wearing a lifejacket, staying close to the lifeguard, and many more.  Upon completion of ALL lessons in this class, children will earn 1 free session of swim lessons through the generosity of the Eastin Charles Foundation!  Open to ages 4 – 12. Classes meet Saturday mornings, 11am-12pm in the pool area.

Fall Session II class starts on November 2 , 11am – 12pm! (6 week class)

*Free session of swim lessons can only be used once and must be used in the same calendar year as SAW participation.

Stage 2 / Water Movement: In stage 2, students focus on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water while also continuing to practice how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water. More in-depth progression from Stage 1, learning how to recognize swimming fatigue and teaches in water resting techniques.

Stage 3 / Water Stamina: In stage 3, students learn how to swim to safety from a longer distance than in previous stages in the event of falling into a body of water. This stage also introduces rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg action.

Stage A / Water Discovery: Parents accompany children in stage A, which introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment through exploration and encourages them to enjoy themselves while learning about the water.  Parents will learn different holds to get their child used to being in the water.  This encourages early muscle memory and reflexes, an early bonding experience for parents and their baby, and parents learn about infant water safety.

Stage B / Water Exploration: In stage B, parents work with their children to explore body positions, floating, blowing bubbles, and fundamental safety and aquatic skills.

Class meet once per week. A parent or guardian must accompany the child in the water at all times. Child must be at least 6 months at date of signup. Registration can be under the parents name.

Stage 4 / Stroke Introduction: Students in stage 4 develop swim stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and learn the breaststroke kick and butterfly kick. Water safety is reinforced through treading water and elementary backstroke.

Stage 5 / Stroke Development: Students in stage 5 work on stroke technique and learn all major competitive strokes. The emphasis on water safety continues through treading water and sidestroke.

Stage 6 / Stroke Mechanics: In stage 6, students refine their stroke technique on all major competitive strokes, learn about competitive swimming, and discover how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle. Students learn the different types of swimming events and introduction to Streamline and transitions between swim strokes.
